There areno end of mountain ranges and valleys in sight; theeye constantly finds some new hidden vale, or detectssome sharp point unnoticed before among the cloud-like mountains in the horizon. From our station on the peak we look upon all thatis most noted in Utah scenery. Along the east liesthe noble chain of the Wahsatch Mountains. Twohundred miles of the length is visible, with endless re-currence of peak and gorge, and between us andthem are the fertile valleys. Directly east is Salt LakeCity, so embowered in trees that we see but few of its 20. 21 houses, the tall white granite towers of the Temple,and the oblong roof of the Tabernacle being the mostconspicuous objects. But the city is only a speck inthe prospect. North and south along the base of therange we detect many little villages nestling amid theirorchards: Bountiful, Centreville, Kaysville, Farming-ton, all the villages along the line of the Utah CentralRailway, and farther north a smoky haze in the airshows the position of Ogden city. South of Salt Lakewe see a great checker board of farms and meadows,filling the eastern side of the valley from end to endwith alternate squares of gold and emerald. Villageshere and there, and the tair chimneys of smelterspouring forth their volumes of smoke and telling ofthe riches found in the hills. Not the least wonder in the eastern view, is themouth of the Wahsatch Canons; the Cottonwoods, theBig and .Little, the American Fork, the Provo, andmany others of lesser note; to the north of
