A splendid berried shrub for the border or planted in clumps on the lawn; it grows about 3 feet high; its branches gracefully recurving; these are covered in August with tiny pink-tinted flowers, followed in late September by great masses of violet-purple berries, borne in clusters from the axil of every leaf; these remain on the plant until midwinter. All fall berried plants are useful and attractive, and this is one of the most desirable. Calycanthus Floridus {Sweet or Strawberry Shrub}. Chocolate- colored strawberry-scented flowers. Cercis Canadensis {Judas Tree, or Bed Bud). Branches are covered with a mass of small pink flowers early in the spring. 50 cts. each. Clethra ainifolia ( WJdte Alder, or Sweet Pepper Bush). Spikes of pure white fragrant flowers; July and August. Colutea Arhorescens (Bladder Senna). Yellow pea-shaped blossoms in June, followed by reddish pods or bladders. Cornus Alba SIbirlca. Crimson-colored branches in winter. — Florida ( White-flowering- Dogwood). 4 to 5 feet, each. Rubra (Red-flowering Dogwood). 3 teet, each. — Sanguinea (Red-twigged Dogwood). Cotoneaster Horizontalis.
