More about Bird Sanctuaries According to the Times, Sir LionelEarle, Permanent Secretary of the Boardof Works, and Chairman of the LondonParks Sanctuaries Committee, has beenastonished at the enthusiasm created bythe proposal to set aside these sanctuaries,and by the torrent of inquiries which hasdescended upon him as to how suchrefuges can be made. The idea hasindeed taken with the public in a mannerthat shows how little beyond a shiningexample and a lead is needed to stir uppopular delight in wild birds as free andunmolested fellow-citizens. Especially,no doubt, does the pleasure of seeing amore abundant and more varied bird-liferound about its own home and hauntsappeal to the non-scientific bird-lover,who is too often left entirely cold
