A cruise ship passes one of the many ferry crossings over the Kiel Canal in Germany. Also known as the Nord Ostsee Kanal, the 98km Kiel Canal links the North Sea and Baltic, running between Kiel and Brunsbuttel on the River Elbe. It is the busiest artificial waterway in the world.
