Rotavirus, illustration. The Rotavirus is a segmented, double-stranded RNA(ribonucleic acid) virus and is a member of the Retroviridae family. It is the most frequent causative agent of severe diarrhoea in young children, but also poses a serious threat to adults, accounting for up to 600,000 deaths every year.
