In 1915, Ren Bishi followed his father to Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan, and was admitted to the Higher Primary School Affiliated to Hunan First Normal University. At that time, Mao Zedong was studying in the undergraduate department of the First Normal University, and Xiao San was teaching at the school. Mao Zedong and others often gave speeches at the lectures organized by the First Normal Student Self-Government Association, which left a deep impression on Ren Bishi.
