Drug delivery agent research. Soy-based hydrogel mixed with water (HPESO-004, left) and in powder form (PESO-004, right). Hydrogels are a network of polymer chains that are water-insoluble. They are superabsorbant, being able to contain over 99 per cent water. They can also have a flexibility similar to natural tissues, due to their water content. This polymer has great potential as a drug-delivery agent. Its absorbant structure means that it can hold the drug, slowly releasing it over time.
