San Martino del Carso : the stone with the lines by the poet Giuseppe Ungaretti. Ungaretti was put down as 'anarchist' in the police records, which prevented him from having access to the training for officers. He lived in the trench as a private, among the privates, away from the empty, pitying rhetoric of the officers. He described that life as the “everyday's frequentation of death”.
