CANADIAN DESTROYER SINKS A U-BOAT. 25 MARCH 1943, LIVERPOOL, HMCS ASSINIBOINE CLAIMED ON REACHING PORT THAT SHE HAD SUNK A GERMAN U-BOAT. IN HIS REPORT THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE DESTROYER SAID THAT CONTACT WAS MADE DURING THE NIGHT AND AFTER CLOSING THE ENEMY SUBMARINE WHICH WAS SURFACED HE GAVE THE ORDER TO RAM, BUT OWING TO THE EVASIVE ACTION OF THE U-BOAT ONLY A GLANCING BLOW WAS DELIVERED. AS THE SUBMARINE PASSED DOWN THE STARBOARD SIDE DEPTH CHARGES WERE DROPPED ON IT AND THE STARBOARD PROPELLER WAS FELT TO STRIKE IT.
