RuvBL1 helicase enzyme, molecular model. Helicases are enzymes that carry out several roles, primarily separating the two strands of the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) double helix, by breaking the hydrogen bonds between nucleotide bases. RuvBL1 plays important roles in the c-Myc and Wnt signalling pathways that are vital to chromatin remodelling, and transcriptional and developmental regulation. It also plays roles in DNA repair and apoptosis (programmed cell death). Here, it forms a cyclic hexamer, with six monomers highlighted by the colours used here.
