. Book of flowers, plants, and seeds. Flowers, Catalogs; Vegetables, Catalogs; Plants, Ornamental, Catalogs; Nurseries (Horticulture), Pennsylvania, Catalogs. lO Harry Chaapel, Williamsport, Pa. New chrysanthemums. By referring to the introductory page, it will be seen to what extent the Chrysanthemum is being im- proved. Our collections contain the very best of the newer varieties, and they are certainly finer than any offer- ed heretofore, and show great ini- provement over the older sorts. Their easy culture and freedom from in- sects commend them to the most inexperienced cultivators; while the varied and gorgeous colors and fantastic shapes of many sorts make them the fashionable flower of autumn. The flowers are very dis- tinct in shape and color, and need only to be seen to be appreciated. Give your plants a warm sunny loca- tion, with rich soil and plenty of water, and even the smallest plants set out in spring will make plants by fall two or three feet high and wide, and will bloom in profusion. Pinch- ing out the ends of the shoots, so as to make them bushy, is necessary from the start until about August ist. The Black Fly or Aphis is the most troublesome insect; sprinkle to- bacco water or dust on the plants as described for Roses, or place tobacco stems under the plants. The fact of the Chrysanthemum be- ing the most deservedly popular flow- er of the day will induce thousands to go into its culture who are entirely unacquainted with its varieties and habits. For such we have arranged them in a pleasing, common-sense way, making selections. ALASKA. Reflexed ; clear white, achusetts Horticultural Society. CHAS. A. REESER.
