MENSTRUAL CYCLE, DRAWING

Mentrual cycle : luteal phase. Inside the ovary, during the follicular phase, the ovarian follicles secrete estrogens, that lead to a proliferation and consequently a thickening of the uterine mucous membrane, that persist during the luteal phase. Following the ovulation, the ovum released by the Graafian follicle is located in the fallopian tube and migrates toward the uterus. The Graafian follicle having released the ovum it contained becomes the corpus luteum (follicular atresia). It is the luteal phase. The corpus luteum produces progesterone, in addition to the estrogens. The conjoined action of the two hormones causes the maturation of the endometrium, that is apt for the embryo implantation.
