Restored mosaic. Restoration of mosaics is mostly limited to cleaning and reinforcing the remaining parts, so that the image is visible. Restored mosaics, once removed from their original support, are fixed to a material known as NIDA (yellow). This material consists of layers of two aluminium sheets either side of a fine alveolate layer, forming a honeycombed network. This work is being carried out as part of the Interdepartmental Workshop restoration of mosaics and wall paintings of Saint-Romain-en-Gal, France.
