Prostatectomy surgical clips. X-ray of the pelvic region of a 66-year-old prostatectomy patient (post-surgery). Prostatectomy is the surgical procedure for the partial or complete removal of the prostate gland. It may be performed to treat prostate cancer, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate gland enlargement), and it involves making a surgical incision to remove the prostate gland. This is an assessment of the patient before continuing recovery from the surgery, and the pelvic surgical clips are visible in the scan. This is an X-ray performed as part of a retrograde cystography test (an imaging technique using contrast dyes to observe the urethra and bladder region), and is used to test the patient's bladder function and urinary flow.
