Thefifth anterior sacral nerve presents about halfthe size of the fourth; it divides into twobranches, one of which communicates withthe fourth, the other with the sixth. The sixthsacral nerve (coccygeal) is exceedingly small;it gives oftan ascending filament which is con-tinuous with the communicating branch ofthe fifth; and a descending filament whichpasses downwards by the side of the coccyxand traverses the fibres of the great sacro-ischiatic ligament to be distributed to thegluteus maximus and to the integument. All the anterior sacralnerves receive branches from the sacral ganglia of the sympatheticat their emergence from the sacral SACRAL PLEXUS. The Sacral plexus is formed by the lumbo-sacral, and by the ante-rior branches of the four upper sacral nerves. The plexus is trian-gular in form, the base corresponding with the whole length of thesacrum, and the apex with the lower part of the great ischiatic fora- * A view of the branches of the ischiatic plexus to the hip and back of the thigh.
