Blaenavon Ironworks began production in 1788 and was the first purpose built multifurnace ironworks in Wales starting with three furnaces and two more being added in 1805 ironmaking continued until 1905 with the cottages on site being lived in until 1971. Blaenavon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed for it's industrial landscape.
