The Skimobile passenger ride, Mount Cranmore ski area, North Conway, New Hampshire, USA with a woman passenger in 1945. This ski lift was a trestle construction with colourful metal cars each carrying one passenger pulled by a cable below the wooden tracks in a continuous loop up and down the mountain (with a change of cars needed at the halfway point). It was invented by local engineer George Morten and opened in 1939. It was a successful attraction all year round but its limited capacity meant it was replaced eventually by a conventional lift and was dismantled in 1989. This image is from an old American amateur Kodak colour transparency. It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1940s photograph.
