5th June 2017. Pegasus Bridge, Normandy France. The British sector within the Operation Cobra sites was captured on the night of the 5th June 1944 and was one of the first villages in Normandy that saw allied action before D Day itself. This year the small village of Ranville is packed with visitors and veterans who attend a service of remembrance close to the strategic bridge across the Caen canal. Period costume, vintage vehicles and boats are viewed by hundreds of people in the warm sunshine. Credit: Wayne Farrell/Alamy News
