International Security Assistance Force soldiers detonate a set of Improvised Explosive Devices found along a path.

Kandahar Province, Afghanistan - June 6, 2010: International Security Assistance Force soldiers detonate a set of Improvised Explosive Devices found along a path next to an abandoned building. Often times the type of IED can be easily seen in the explosive pattern. Here, the IED consisted of a large unshaped device (The plume going straight up) designed to set of a smaller, directional charge full of shrapnel designed to blow backward through the other soldiers (The plume going horizontally left). Thankfully, this device was discovered by a sharp eye before it was able to harm anyone.
