According to the Japanese legend, Buddha came into the world in a miraculousmanner. Immediately on his birth he stood upright in the middle of the chamber, madeseven steps in the direction of each of the four cardinal points, and, pointing with his righthand towards heaven and his left hand towards the ground, he said, Above me on high,and below and around me, there is nothing which can compare with me, and no other.
