Hendrickson estimates the acreage of gladioli in the United States at from 400 to 500, with the bulb crop running 14,000,000 to 15,000,000. E. S. Thompson states that the Central Seed & Bulb Co., Benton Harbor, Mich., has removed to 78 and 80 West Main street, where the retail business will be continued and the wholesale department afforded opportunity for development. The country is full of giganteum lily bulbs of the 1914 crop in cold storage and the holders are in a quandary as to how best to meet the situation caused by the considerable surplus over what is needed to take care of standing orders. EoBERT H. Black, of Albert Lea, Minn., believes that exhibitions at state fairs are a profitable form of publicity. He had a successful exhibit at the Great North Iowa fair, at Mason City, la., and was represented at Des Moines, la., by a large display of gladioli. He also participated in the recent Minne- apolis fair. The U, S. Weather Bureau in coopera- tion with the Bureau of Crop Estimates has sent out a warning that "owing to the general backward state of this year's com crop in many of the northern but important growing sections of the belt, there is danger of injury to the crop by killing frost, the occurrence of which may be expected at any time.
