The result was the birth of the Boy Scout idea, and the firstBoy Scout in the world is the son of the gentleman who was acting asassistant editor at that time, Mr. Carl Ackerman, now with the FrankSeaman Advertising Company of New Boy Scouts of Flushing—Under Command of the Late City Magistrate Joseph Fitch It was not until 1908 that the famous English General Baden-Powellstarted the English Boy Scouts. But a year previous to that time, in1907 Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, also a Long Island man, and at thattime President of the United States, endorsed the Boy Scout Movementstarted by the editor of Recreation. At the suggestions of the President of the United States, AdmiralDewey, Major-General Bell and Gifford Pinchot also endorsed the Move-ment. With these distinguished men backing the infant society was thelate Colonel Cody, John Muir and John Burroughs. This was one yearprevious to the organization of the English Boy Scouts and two yearsafter the Boy Scouts had been started here in America.
