A late 19th century engraving of male residents of Circassia in typical dress of the time, Circassia, also known variously as Cherkessia, Adıgə Xəku, Adıgey, Adyghe: Адыгэ Хэку, Адыгей, Çerkezistan, and Çerkesya in various cultures, was a country destroyed and devastated after the Russian-Circassian War (1763–1864). It was infamous for the Circassian genocide when 90% of the population was either massacred or exiled. It is now recognised as a region of the North Caucasus. -- Гравюра конца 19-го века с изображением мужчин-жителей Черкесии в типичной одежде того времени
