DNA autoradiogram. Geneticist examining a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) autoradiogram. It shows an analysis of DNA samples. The autoradiogram is a visual record of the analysis, created on film by the reaction of small amounts of radioactivity present in each sample. The samples have been analysed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), a technique in which DNA is amplified from very small starting amounts. Each band on the autoradiogram represents a fragment of amplified DNA. DNA is the genetic material containing the instructions necessary for the development and functioning of all living organisms.
