BOILER TROUBLES. Among boiler troubles, that of leakingtubes is, perhaps, the most common. Asa rule, this is due to scale collectingaround the tubes on the rear head andit is almost impossible to remove it fromaround the centre tubes, as they cannotbe reached for efficient Work with ascraper. The vertical spaces can, how-ever, be cleaned fairly well by the per-sistent use of a long chisel-ended bar. Aman should go inside and lie on the topof the tubes, facing the rear, and scrapethe head. Care must be used, if the bar is rather T9 sharp, not to injure the tubes. If this isdone and the tubes re-rolled and re-bead-ed, they can be made tight, and the restof the scale will gradually work off ifthe vertical spaces are kept cle
