Pterosaur flying reptile skimming, illustration. Pterosaurs existed from 228 to 66 million years ago, from the late Triassic to the end of the Cretaceous. They flew with wings formed from a membranous structure stretched between the ankles and a lengthened finger. Some theories suggest that pterosaurs may have fed by skimming from the surface of the ocean, similar to how modern-day skimmer seabirds feed.
