Ispra is an important tourist center on Lake Maggiore, also called Verbano, with a beautiful lakefront with small marinas and beaches. Ispra is also known for the presence of the Centro Comune di Ricerca () or EURATOM, or Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission and for the Ispra Research Center of ENEA which occupies about a third of the municipal area. At Ispra is interesting the path called Ring of the Furnaces (anello delle fornaci), from which you can admire wide views of the lake and some old lime kilns
