Flowers pendulous, milk-white, with a strong unpleasant smell. One of the most stately species of the genus, conveying no bad idea of a palm tree. The great peculiarity by which it appears to be distinguished is, the spreading of the flowers, the segments of which, instead of remaining closed in a globose manner, as in most of the other species, expand till they diverge from the flower-stalk nearly at a right angle. » 5.
