Situated below the village of Dinorwig, both villages are situated next to the disused Dinorwig slate quarry which was one of the largest slate quarries in the world until its closure in 1969. The quarry now hosts a hydro electric power station deep inside the mountain and is known as 'Electric Mountain'/
