After rupture of the membranes, great care must beexercised in vaginal explorations, to avoid injuring the eyes, or excitingpremature respiratory movements by allowing air to enter the mouth. If the chin remains persistently directed to the rear, rotation maysometimes be promoted by either pressing forward with two fingersupon the lower jaw, or by pushing the forehead backward and upward,to produce a deep descent of the chin.
