The Lunar Orbiter program was a series of unmanned lunar orbiters launched by the USA in 1966 and 1967 to help select a landing place for the Apollo Lunar Landing Program by mapping the Moon. All 5 missions were successful, and 99% of the Moon was mapped from photographs taken with a resolution of 60 meters or better.
