His trip lasted from 15 to 27 August before George returned to Greenwich and its success launched a long-lasting English (and royal) love affair with the romantic aspects of Scottish history and scenery, largely due to the influence of Sir Walter Scott who played a great part in orchestrating the royal welcome.
