David Williamson Nevin was born Sep-tember 9, 1853, near Shippensburg, Frank-lin county, Pennsylvania, and is a son ofSamuel Williamson and Harriet (Balch)Nevin. His primary education was re-ceived in the public schools of his nativeplace, and he afterward attended the Tus-carura Academy, Academia, he passed to Chambersburg Acad-emy, later entering Lafayette College inthe class of 1874. After two years, illnessforced him to leave, and on his recoveryhe accepted a position in the UnitedStates Pension Office in an interval he returned to college,graduating with the class of 1875.
