Nepenthes, popularly known as pitcher plants or monkey cups, is a genus of carnivorous plants belonging to the monotypic family Nepenthaceae, of which Nepenthes x mixta is a hybrid. This cup-shaped feature here shown is a modified leaf that serves to attract and trap food for this carnivorous plant, being mainly insects. They thrive in mountainous areas and more rarely humid lowlands of tropical SE Asia and the Indo-Australian archipelago.
