CROSS SECTIONOF MOULD The core was swept up, plus a thick-ness of sand equal to the outside di-ameter of the casting, the necessary con-traction being also allowed for, this facebeing lined up with wet pasting sand forobvious purposes. The strickle was now. removed, and the loose flange, Fig. 3,also shown in Figs. 1 and 2, set to posi-tion, after which the two pulley checkparts used as a flask were lowered toplace, and rammed up carefully to theupper face of the loose flange abovementioned. To accommodate the cover eore usedas a cope, a perfectly flat face wasstrickled around the- flange before itswithdrawal, the box being next hoistedoff and placed on blocks to permit thenecessary finishing. The spindle was again replaced, withstrickle again bolted to its position, minus the two loose pieces shown inFig. 2, the one-inch drop and one-inchdecrease in radius allowing the extracore size to be swept off, thus leavingthe core to its correct diameter. Plum-bago blacking was well rubbed on bothcore and outside mold before closing*.A cover core made from the open framebox at Fig. 4 being perforated with thenecessary holes intended to serve asrunner and riser, and set to place overthe flange mold. A pair of short rails were laid acrossand wedged w
