He servedat Fortress Monroe, Newport News, andHampton, Va., and participated in engage-ment at Big Bethel ; nmstered out July 22,1861. Re-enlisted and mustered in as CaptainCompany D, Thirty-Ninth Regiment Mas-sachusetts Volunteer Infantrj-, Augtist 14, 1862, to serve for three years.
