The god of song, laurel-crowned, is seatedin an autumnal landscape, playing the violin in anerotic frenzy, while, far away, the white-robed Daphnebecomes a laurel. The very trees seem to have caughtthe hopeless passion of a god, who strikes the lastnote of his music before the storm, which is alreadybreaking over the little town in the background:— For \o, the thunder Imshing all the did Love live, not even Love could sing. Some details of the decorations of a hall, probablyin the Castello Vecchio, are preserved in the picturesat Dresden. They are late works, executed underErcole IL, in which Dosso was assisted not only byBattista, but by various pupils and apprentices, amongwhom was Girolamo da Carpi.
