Thousands of coal miners strike in Donetsk the regional capital of the Donbas region of the independent Ukraine, June 1993. More than 15,000 miners and their families gathered outside of the central government building on Donetsk Square on Sunday during the strike. The striking miners demanded better working conditions and better wages in the wake of Hyperinflation in the independent Ukraine. The Donbas in the eastern Ukraine was annexed by Russia in 2014 and was the third largest European coal producer before it was seized by pro-Russian separatists.
