For single decks, the cylinder B is not required, cylinderA being fixed in position to roll the logs in the desired direction. Log Transfer. Some decks are equipped with a log transfer which is used to crowdlogs towards the log-stop and loader, thus eliminating the need fora cant-hook man on the deck. The most simple form of log transferhas two parallel lines of heavy flat-link chains spaced about 7 feetcenter to center, which extend crosswise of the deck from a point nearthe log trough to another point near the base of the deck. The chains, which are driven by sprockets attached to a common shaft to whichpower is applied by means of friction gears, rest on the top of skidswhich are raised a few inches above the deck level. The logs ride onthe chains and are carried down the deck when the chains are in motion. TH
