Inscribed palm leaves are stored in archives at the Oriental Research Institute (ORI) in Mysore, India. The institute is a leading establishment for the learning of Sanskrit. The leaves can last for up to 800 years. Most are written in sanskrit but a number of different scripts are used. According to legend this type of leaf was used by the Rishis to record the past, present and future lives of all of the people who will ever call upon their library.
