C. COROT J. B. C. COROT 75—LE BOULEAU A simple motive, dignified by the choice ofeffect and arrangement of masses. A pond, overshadowed on the right by a group of treesand bordered by rankly rich meadows, reflects inits narrow extent the light of the sky and a hintof the colored roofs of farm-houses beyond thewater. Breaking the line of hills on the left arepollarded willows growing near a large boulder, and a graceful birch tree lifts on the right itsfeathery crown against the clouds. The sunlighttouches crisply the silvery bark of the birch, il-luminates the bright-colored garments of a peas-ant woman kneeling by the pond, and flickers onthe wild flowers which are scattered over thebroken ground.
