Red 60 filler Magyar Posta Socialist Coat of Arms of Hungary ('Kadar Badge') postage stamp, issued Budapest, October 1957

Arms of Hungary stamp, designed by Sandor Legrady and issued Budapest, October 1st 1957. A new Socialist Coat of Arms, with a small shield at the centre covered by the Hungarian national tri-colour, was created in 1957. Known as the 'Kadar Badge', after Janos Kadar, General Secretary of the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party 1956-88, it replaced the post-war Stalinist coat of arms, known as the 'Rakosi Badge', and unpopular with the majority of Hungarians because of its close resemblance with the Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union.
