The sincere courtesies of thanking the out-going executive members and congratulating the new ended the meeting with feelings of relief and anticipation. Echoes of "What are we going to do without you" are met with the thoughts of new directors "What have I got myself into". Both indicate a sense of being LOST. Are your Directors "Lost" or have you provided them with something to work with and for? ORIENTATION provides an opportunity for the new directors to become acquainted and ask questions regarding their role and responsibi1ites and the objectives and policies of the Agricultural Society. "Retired" directors can be particularly valuable if they assist with the orientation of new directors. When a director's term is finished, he should provide a written record of what has happened during his term, to be passed on to the new directors. All his records and materials should be inherited by his replacement. When new directors are added to the executive, at least one full meeting should be devoted to orientation. If your executive feels they need help, to provide orientation for it's new members, or in setting a plan of action to meet your objectives, the Community Services Branch staff would assist you with ideas and pointers aimed towards planning your Agricultural Society's Board Orientation meeting. If you require further assistance, we would consider attending your workshop.
