Merton Gage perhaps has a woiitl-wide reputation on account of his connection with the American Gladiolus Society, whose secretary he has been since its beginning, but even before that time Mr. Gage had been known all over the world as a collector and breeder of gladioli and his liuowledge of the subject is indeed most extensive. He has been growing gladioli for ten years or more. He has studied them even to the point of species and he himself lias bred hybrids which we hope In the future will be disseminated. Mr. Guge was a florist at one time, but on account of ill health gave up liis liuslness and has lived In Orange, Mass., fur a number of years. Montague Chamberlain Is a well known writer on ornithology and lias published several works on the history and language of the eastern tribes of Indians and was at one time connected witli tlie sdentilic school of Harvard University. He is a man of wide business experience and has been for several years (inanclal manager of one of the largest furnishing liouses In Boston. Mr. Chamberlain has only of late become an en- thusiast on the gladiolus, but he was one of the first to respond to tlie call for forming tlie American Gladiolus Society. With the prizes he has offered he has always shown his Inclination to favor the amateur side, in which he is deeply Interested. Commercially, he has grown gladioli now for three years and his first attempt at a catalogue was publislied this spr
