OCEAN (Oct. 26, 2016) USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Commanding Officer Mark A. Melson, center, briefs Petty Officer First Class Alejandro Vega and the crew of an MH-60S Seahawk assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) 21 aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island before a search and rescue mission to locate and recover Chinese mariner, Guo Chuan, in the western Pacific Ocean. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of the Navy’s maritime strategy in the 3rd Fleet area of responsibility.
