Solar heat collectors, Germany. Solar heat collectors on the roof of a building on the Braamwisch Ecological Housing Estate, part of the Karlshohe Solar Project, Hamburg, Germany. The project began in 1996. Hot water from the collectors, which are heated by sunlight, is piped to a central heating plant, which distributes the hot water back to the houses for use as needed. Surplus heat from the summer is stored for use in the winter.
