The union leadersclaimed the Italians were poor workmen, slow and wasteful,and that it would be cheaper in the long run to employ unionmen at the wage mentioned. Mr. Stanley stated that his com-pany was looking for results, and that he would try a gang ofunion men with a union foreman, and that if they could showthat union labor was cheaper the company would employ unionpavers in the future.
