Self-seeded Californian poppy in our Oxfordshire village garden. A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. They are herbaceous plants, often grown for their colourful flowers. They also spread and grow just about anywhere. They are the state flower of Caifornia, needless to say.
