Coiinette, general manager of tlie Syracuse Rapid Tran-sit Railroad has invented a new stylo of transfer punch whichis illustrated herewith and which was designed with a view to cir-cumvent the many schemes devised by passengers for beating streetrailways out of a ride by means of transfer slips improperly device. Fig. i. consists of-a punch the general appearance ofwhich is somewhat similar to those in common use. but having alarger head. This head contains four aluminum disks with dies onthe outside edges. One of the wheels is for the month, one for tlieday of the month, one for the hour and one for the minute. Thesedisks revolve on pivots and can be easily adjusted so that the figuresand words for month, day. hour or minute will turn opposite a slitin the punch in which the transfer slip is inserted for punching. .Vn. inked ribbon which can be easily moved forward as the ink is used,is inserted between the dies and the transfer slip. The transfer slipis inserted in the jaws of the punch, and by bringing the handlestogether, the dies on the wheels are pressed against the ribbon aridthe paper. A hole is punched through the transfer slip and on theback of it is printed in plain letters the month, the year, the day ofthe month and the time. The illustration. Fig. 2, shows the manner in which the transferslips are printed by this punch. In order to designate whether thetransfer is issued in the morning or afternoon slips of dififere colors are used, white ones indicating the morning hours and coloredones the time between noon and midnight. Besides the advantageof having the slip indicate the date and hour in plain letters andfigures, intelligible to all, another great advantage claimed for tliispunch is that a great saving in time results from its use.
