Onthe Sunday of the Pittsburg riot it issued hourly continued to issue extras at all hours of the day andnight during the week. From a circulation of about sixthousand it advanced in a single day to over 90,000. Beforethe troubles blew over they had blown the Daily News intopopularity and prosperity. The penny paper had distancedits evening rivals in the art of news gathering, and itsposition for all time was secure.
